I am a professional guitarist and music producer from the Bay Area who recently graduated from The New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC after 4 years back in 2015 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Guitar Studies. I moved to Los Angeles to continue working with major artists in February 2016. Since moving to New York (and then LA) and starting my enrollment at The New School, I have performed and worked with several major label artists mainly in the Top 40, R&B, and Hip Hop genres of music.
I have been teaching guitar lessons since I was in high school and I love it. There is nothing greater than seeing the pure joy on a student’s face as they learn how to play the guitar and are loving it. I use my classically jazz trained background to give students the most well-rounded learning experience you can find because I also have extensive experience in a ton of genres. From blues, rock, jazz all the way to jazz, flamenco, and classical, I have immersed myself in a wide perspective of the musical language.
I have been playing guitar since a young age. It was something I gravitated toward by myself, it was not an after school activity started by my parents. I learned the guitar completely by ear on my own with a few lessons here and there from various teachers. It was love at first sight. When everyone was at the high school prom, I was at home practicing! It was just one of those things in my life at an early age. I got extremely serious about it in high school with the jazz band and regularly won jazz band competitions with my high school jazz band. When I moved to NYC to enroll at The New School for my college years, I then fully blossomed into the professional player that I am today. The jazz language took my playing and musical thought process to another level. Also, the NYC music scene is an extremely unforgiving one, so falling flat on my face many times didn’t hurt my improvement as a player one bit!
I approach each student specifically to their skill level and personal goals. For a young beginner, the main goals I would set would be keeping it fun, learn the fundamentals, be patient. For the more advanced students, I can break down what they want to learn and teach it to them using a broad stroke approach incorporating my classically jazz trained background with the perfect blend of music theory and fun.
