My introduction to music began with my parents sharing their album collection with me when I was in fourth grade. From that moment moving forward, I knew that I wanted to master a musical instrument. However, it certainly wasn’t as easy as I thought. I remember dreading the monotony of understanding scales and chord structures – and it reached a point that almost made me give up entirely. Fortunately, my teacher, Doug, held my interest with his engaging style and I soon found myself playing along to my favorite songs, writing my own instrumentals, and later, joining a band.
For the last thirteen years, music has remained an important part of my life. I was the lead guitarist in my high school’s pep band, I have played in several cover bands, and I have joined guitar legend, Robert Randolph, on stage in front of a sold-out Chicago crowd. However, my happiest accomplishment is an ongoing one that commenced in March 2014: the formation of Railway Gamblers. I have always wanted to join an original group and I entered the band as the lead guitarist upon its formation, alongside three of my best friends. This is an experience that has allowed me to network with other prominent artists in the genre of Americana, extensively record original material, and perform a number of sold out shows throughout the Midwest.
Music means everything to me and I want to share in this amazing experience with the next great up-and-coming artists.
My background is deeply rooted in classic rock, Americana, folk, and alternative. For the last thirteen years, I have had experience as a lead and rhythm player in several projects. Chord structures, navigating the key of a song with lead riffs, and understanding the progression of a composition are my areas of expertise. I want to provide musicians with technical skill as well as understanding. Sometimes one accented chord or one single note can make a world of difference for one great song. Every second of playing should be valued and have a purpose.
I would classify my style as patient. I have had first hand experience with enduring slow progress as a player. Each individual has his or her own pace that is the “right” pace. Some will learn faster than others and I completely respect that.
Sure, some of the “boring stuff” is essential – chords, understanding the key of a song, etc. And some things are a bit more complex – such as music theory. I want to make sure you learn these musical aspects and everything that you need to reach your anticipated level of success. But this is about YOU.
I also want to make sure that every person feels valued and that his or her opinions and ideas are always heard and acknowledged. This is YOUR interest and this is YOUR time. We will cover and review whatever you would like while maintaining a steady increase in skill. Music should be fun and I will never end a lesson without your smile. Let’s make you great!
